"Character can't be taught like a lesson in school; it's mostly learned by observing." --Dr. Kenneth Ginsburg

Building Resilience in Children and Teens
I highly recommend checking out Kenneth Ginsburg's website Fostering Resilience.
Dr. Ginsburg's books suggest ways to help prepare children to thrive in good times and bad, by focusing on the 7 C's for resilience: competence, confidence, connection, character, contribution, coping, and control. His free, online practical tips for youth and adults build and support the skills of resilience. You don't even have to be, or have, a child to benefit from his expertise.

Letting Go with Love and Confidence teaches parents how to apply the principles of resilience. It offers practical advice on everyday “when” questions that challenge parents. When is my child ready to go to the mall? Handle a cell phone? Date? It also addresses “how” to talk about the tough stuff — peer pressure, sex, drugs.

Building Resilience in Children and Teens offers strategies to help kids from 18 months to 18 years build seven crucial “Cs” — competence, confidence, connection, character, contribution, coping, and control — so they can bounce back from challenges and excel in life.
